| Abstract: | This paper examines the current state of organizational diversity and diversity research, with a particular focus on the library science profession. It begins with a definition of diversity and an examination of the demographic and functional characteristics frequently studied by diversity researchers, followed by an explanation of the three main theoretical categories of diversity. A review of the literature on diversity provides the basis for a discussion of the impact of diversity on organizations and the potential positive and negative impacts that result from organizational diversity. This discussion of the general literature on diversity informs a review of the library science research literature and an analysis of the present state of diversity in libraries. Finally, the paper concludes with recommendations regarding important areas for further research. |
