Abstract: This study focuses on the specialized needs of the graduate students served by departmental science libraries at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The aims were to learn how libraries can better meet the needs of graduate students served by the specialized science libraries, improve existing services, and determine what changes ought to be made in the future. An electronic survey was distributed to the entire graduate student population that is served by the science libraries. Results reveal the unmet needs of the students, the amount of interdisciplinary work and multi-library use by students, and the instructional services requested by the respondents. Recommendations for improvements and additions to existing library resources and services are given, as well as suggestions for future research on this topic.
